16U Open-Gold Runner Up

Hot bats and stellar defense powers 16U-Headley to a 5-1 weekend and Runner Up hardware.  The girls came out the gate hot on their 1st weekend on the diamond.  The girls limited their errors to 1.5 errors per game and batted a whopping .414 for the weekend with 4 girls batting .500 plus. Morgan Gleason, Natalie Wilkes and Maddie Jury all batted over this mark and Lillie Nelson led the charge and weekend with a .583 average and .667 OBP from the Lead off spot.  Contributions came from all 12 girls as the battled from behind in the majority of their games, playing to the last out and falling just short in the championship game 10-6.  Jenna Goldey and Laci Wood carried the full load on the mound for the weekend and kept the girls in each game to allow the offense to leave its mark on all the opposing defenses.  The offense was boosted by an early 2-run homerun in game 1 by Karlie Wolfe and they never looked back. 16U Headley looks to keep these bats hot when they hit the field again in the USSSA Save Second Base for Breast Cancer Tournament on Oct. 5-6.
